My First Author Appearance

Imagine my surprise when I was invited to “Career” Day at an area elementary school to talk about being a writer.  A writer? Me? I could not believe I was not getting invited to talk about the thrill of being a teacher but yet a WRITER!  I was so excited and I began to plan how I would present to the classes and worried myself into a nervous frenzy until I decided just to be myself and relax.

When I arrived at the school, I was immediately greeted by smiling faces and escorted to a room full of refreshments for the guests.  I grabbed a bottle water and began conversing with the other guests until it was time for me to read to the kids. I read to a 2nd grade class and a 1st grade class. They asked me some awesome questions:

  • How many books do you plan to write?
  • What’s your favorite color from the book?
  • Where is the illustrator?
  • How long did it take you to write the book?
  • How old are you?
  • Why did you color the frog blue?

Those questions and more made me smile and I was happy to be a writer. I was happy to share my thoughts and words with beautiful children who were open vessels.

Congratulations! I know I really love to talk to authors! It’s great when they come out to schools and bookstores. Your book looks like it has a good message! Would you maybe you’d do an email interview fo my blog? Email me if you think you’d like to do it! 🙂
